Effective 23 October 2026
Skua has no servers, no accounts, and no analytics. We do not collect, receive, or store anything about you. The app talks directly to public weather sources from your phone, and this page lists what each one receives.
What leaves your phone
- Apple Weather and Open-Meteo receive the coordinates of the place you are viewing, to return its forecast, air quality, marine, and lightning data. Open-Meteo also receives the text you type into place search.
- The National Weather Service receives coordinates for severe alerts. NOAA Tides and Currents receives only the ID of the nearest tide station, which the app picks on the device.
- Pollen.com receives a five-digit ZIP code. Apple's geocoder turns your coordinates into that ZIP on the device.
- RainViewer and the NOAA aurora feed receive no location. Wikipedia receives only today's date.
Each of these services handles requests under its own privacy policy.
What stays on your phone
- Your saved places, plans, dashboard layouts, and settings.
- Your household list and the allergens you enter for each person.
- Calendar events. With your permission, Skua reads your next event to check its weather and never sends it anywhere.
- The skua's voice. Every line comes from a bank built into the app.
Tracking
- No accounts and no sign-in.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising.
- No cookies and no device fingerprinting.
Children
Skua gathers no personal information from anyone of any age. It is not directed at children.
Changes
If Skua ever adds a hosted service, this page will describe exactly what it does before it ships.
